Black Bear

Ursus americanus.

The bear hunts are conducted out of Treeline Lodge on South Nueltin. Baits are placed 4-6 miles apart on Nueltin’s south basin as well as on Nahili lake and as far east as Shannon Lake – all bait sites are in close proximity to waters edge and easily accessible by boat or ATV. Top quality two person tree stands await the intrepid rifle, black powder and archery hunter lucky enough to secure a tag! We have also had a lot of luck spotting and stocking bears.

Black bear in this area over the past twenty-five years have averaged an estimated 300 – 350 lbs. Every year we take a total of 8 Bear tags – many make Book. It is reasonable to assume that with such limited hunting pressure there will be many large Bears available for many seasons to come! Coloration varies from dark black to several light cinnamons and blonde. These animals have had little or no contact with people. These conditions make for a very exciting hunt!
